MATT BOREK
Matt Borek brings over 22 years of expertise in broadcast and digital media content creation and leadership to his role as Media and Public Affairs Consultant at Catalyst Communications Group. With a passion for compelling storytelling, Matt has earned numerous awards and driven success for his clients.
Matt's journey in journalism began in junior high school, where he was instrumental in establishing a journalism class. He transformed the school’s newsletter from a simple administrative function into a vibrant student-produced publication and led the creation of a daily newscast for students. His innovative approach also forged a partnership with WNEM-TV for mentoring and content sharing.
While pursuing a Journalism degree at Central Michigan University, Matt launched his professional career at WNEM in Saginaw, Michigan, as a producer and later returned as Assistant News Director following producing roles at WDIV in Detroit, Michigan.
Most recently, Matt served as the Managing Director of the Florida 24 Network at Scripps. In this capacity, he oversaw brand development, revenue generation, and content integration for the statewide news channel. His leadership was pivotal in expanding the network's coverage through a strategic partnership with Cox Media Group. Prior to this, Matt was the Digital Director at WFTS-TV in Tampa, where he led digital strategy and content development, significantly enhancing the station’s digital presence. Matt has held leadership roles at WNEM and Bay News 9 in Tampa.
Throughout his career, Matt has been recognized for his excellence in journalism and media management, receiving multiple Emmy nominations and awards from the Associated Press for Best Continuing Coverage, Best Election Coverage, and Best Website.
Outside of work, Matt resides in St. Petersburg, where he enjoys spending time at the beach, golfing, and exploring local breweries and eateries.
